Scholarships

In keeping with the Hall's mission, one of the first things to be established was a scholarship fund.

At the annual banquet, four high school scholarships are awarded: The Furher Family Athletic Scholarship, the Ed Boyle Soccer Scholarship, the Rich Kriston Scholarship, and the Harry (Buzz) Lodge Scholarship (see below). Applications forms for each can be downloaded from the sidebar to the left; additional copies are available in the Guidance Office. Applications are due by April 1.

Fuhrer Family Athletic Scholarship

Fuhrer Family Athletic Scholarship Form

The Fuhrer Family Athletic Scholarship was established to honor a Fox Chapel Area High School senior who has excelled in an athletic activity while maintaining high academic standards. The scholarship awards up to $2,500 annually to a Fox Chapel Area High School Senior who has shown a commitment to continuing his/her education beyond high school.

This scholarship is renewable for three additional consecutive years if acceptable standards are maintained, making the total scholarship worth up to $10,000.

The scholarship is presented at the Annual Induction Banquet of the Fox Chapel Area Schools Sports Hall of Fame each June. The recipient is required to attend the banquet.

Ed Boyle Soccer Scholarship

Ed Boyle Soccer Scholarship Form

The Ed Boyle Scholarship is named for the beloved physical education teacher and coach who initiated the Fox Chapel Area School District soccer program.

A collegiate All American, Ed Boyle served as head coach of the varsity team for nine years, leading the team to WPIAL Championships in 1964 and 1967. He returned to the program as an assistant coach in the late 70s and continued in that capacity until his retirement in 1992.

After his death in 2008, the Boyle Family, with contributions by faculty, fellow coaches, and former players, established a $1,000 scholarship in his name to be given to a graduating male soccer player. Established through the Pittsburgh Foundation, the scholarship is awarded according to their scholarship guidelines to a student who exemplifies the spirit and the talent of Coach Boyle.

The Rich Kriston Athletic Scholarship was established to honor a Fox Chapel Area High School senior who has excelled in athletic activity while maintaining high sportsmanship standards. The scholarship is a one-time award of $2,000 for a Fox Chapel Area High School Senior who has shown a commitment to continuing his/her education beyond high school.

Harry Lodge Scholarship

The Lodge Family Scholarship was created to honor a Fox Chapel High School senior who has excelled in their chosen athletic activity, maintained high academic standards, and shown a commitment to community service. The scholarship is a one time award of $3500 for a senior who is continuing her/his education beyond high school.
